@evilmeerkat007 It’s not “purified” water that does that… it’s “distilled” water. Distilled water doesn’t have the beneficial minerals so the body leeches essential minerals from bones and muscles to compensate. Purified water retains those minerals so there’s no concern here.

If you drink too much pure water, it can kill you. Because of diffusion, too much pure water running through your blood stream can actually create a hypotonic environment compared to your cells and draw many important particles (things like ions and molecules) out. Needless to say, that can be a bad thing.

@jasonrothfeld There’s a lot that those filters, like most typical retail filters, will not take out. And the filter on your refrigerator won’t remove fluoride.

@jasonrothfeld does it filt the fluride?!?!

@jasonrothfeld people who buy these things are invariably preppers buying them for outdoor or emergency conditions.
They don’t require any power and are easier to transport in an emergency/”bug-out” than your refridgerator.

I would just get a good refrigerator most have water things on the door and have filters. I have a french door lg refrigerator in aluminum it has a water dispenser on the door. But mine was 3000 dollers a 800 refrigerator has a filter and water dispenser on it. It comes standard now.

I would only trust a water filter using Tap water and nothing else. I would prefer a distiller for river or lake water since distillers use and replicate the Hydrologic cycle thus leaving you only pure H2O… Filters start out good but as it is used more it cloggs up fast. If it doesn’t clog fast then things are getting past the filter and you are drinking it. If berkey filter is so good I would like to see it filter urine or Ice Tea. I know a distiller will seperate the H2O from urine…

@stud002 t Thanks for the info i really appreciate it, it’s water from the Hudson River wich is a combo of salt water and fresh water, the best thing to do is wait till low tide when the salt water is returning to the Ocean, atleast that’s what i’ve read so far.
Thanks again and be well, hahah get it well…

@Backin2time You can’t filter ocean water since it’s salt water but I believe you can filter river and lake water if its fresh water

If my sport berkey sits for any length of time it has a VERY chemical taste for the first bottle’s worth. It makes me nervous to drink it. What makes the chemical taste? It has to be the filtered impurities back-feeding into the bottle. Mine is new, it’s done this from the start. I don’t use it anymore. It worries me.

I love my Berkey but I would have gotten a bigger one if I had it to do over again . Its just for me and my husband so we got the Big Berkey withe 2 black and 2 white ceramic filters. I think the white ceramic filters may slow things down a bit but I would never drink water without them. The filters take up a lot of space inside so we only can fill it to 1.5 gallons full and it takes about 6 hours to filter it.
I have to plan ahead if I am making a big pot of soup.
