Big Berkey Drinking Water Filter System/Black Berkey Filters

The Big Berkey Purification System comes with two Black Berkey Filters. It has a storage capacity of 2.25 gallons and can up to 3.5 gallons per hour of safe water. It is offered for sale by 911water. Its stainless steel construction and easy to assemble design has made it the choice of thousands, including missionaries, campers, home owners, emergency agencies and the preparedness community. The "Big Berkey" is compact and easily portable (only 12" tall when not in use) and features two Black water purification elements that remove bacteria, chemicals, pollutants and sediment, odors and bad taste. Each filter element will provide efficient water filtration between 3400 gallons to 19500 gallons, depending on water quality. Heavily contaminated water would result in shorter filter element use, ie swamp water, filthy river water or heavily chlorinated* water. Filtering cleaner water, such as clear lake or stream water, snow or rain results in longer filter use. *Chlorination levels vary greatly from area to area and may vary daily in the same water system. www.drinking-water-filter-system.com Many users of British Berkefeld will purchase one or more spare filter elements, just in case one of the durable filter elements accidentally becomes damaged by negligence at some future date.

Yes, the filter remove sediment. However, they will remove some but not all of dissolved minerals, which naturally occur in groundwater.

Put the washers on the top inside the bucket just under the filter to keep unfiltered water from entering the lower half.

Stacey, the ceramic filters come with one washer. Do I put the washer on the top inside of the bucket just under the filter itself or below the bucket along with the nut?

Yes, the Black Berkey Elements will remove sediment like lime stone and calcium from the water. To illustrate: When you run water straight from the tap, then allow the water to evaporate, you can see the sediment when the water dries, usually as a white deposit on the walls of your sink. However, with water filtered through the Berkey there is no sediment left when the water dries.
